About

Udal Systems.

Udal Systems is an engineering company building the governed, self-hosted platform for AI agents used by regulated finance and government. We are based in Edinburgh.

What we build

Udal is the platform that lets a regulated organisation build, run, and govern AI agents inside its own environment. It replaces the SaaS agent stack — where prompts, tools, and data leave the boundary — with a self-hosted control plane, a paved-road SDK, policy-as-code, hard budgets, and a tamper-evident audit log.

Why we exist

Every serious institution is under pressure to ship AI agents, and none of them are willing to hand their data, permissions, or audit trail to a vendor above them. We built Udal so the answer stops being "wait, or take the risk" — and starts being "deploy, on ground you already own."

How we work

We ship signed images, an SBOM, SLSA provenance, and an installable bundle — including for air-gapped environments. The vendor never sees customer data, telemetry is off by default, and every briefing is technical. No marketing lists.

Where we are

Edinburgh, Scotland. The name Udal (pronounced OO-dal) is an old Norse and Scottish form of land tenure meaning absolute right, free of any feudal superior. The idea we build against: your agents, your ground.

Deploy your first governed agent.
